Why did calligraphy become simply "penmanship"?

Why don't we learn ink painting, a part of Japanese culture, in school?

That was my simple question.

The current baby boomer generation and our parents' generation have no knowledge of prewar education.

It has remained unchanged for over 70 years since the postwar educational reforms, and remains so to this day.

If we continue like this, without knowing Japanese culture,

Without inheriting the wisdom left by our ancestors,

Still unable to take pride in being Japanese...

And, having lost sight of my own axis,

How will we survive in the coming chaotic times?

What about the children who will carry the future?

What about us as adults?

I want to connect the Japanese spirit to the future!

With this in mind, we launched Shoga no Wa in 2021.

A circle of calligraphy and painting that connects to the future

Through calligraphy and painting, you can not only learn about "tradition" and "wisdom from our ancestors,"

It also develops the ability to make choices that will be necessary for the future.

✔ Children can have free thinking and creativity.

✔ For adults, it's time to organize your thoughts and reflect on yourself.

Instead of being swayed by information, we will paint the future with our own hands.
